Mike Larsen

Mike started writing jokes at 8 years old after my grandmother told him a story didn’t have to be true if it was funny. He devoured joke books, studied comedians on TV, and dissected every joke he heard, like a grease monkey pulls apart old cars.

In college, he started writing speeches for politicians around San Francisco, and eventually hit some open mics with minimal success. He moved to Washington, DC after graduating, and when he couldn’t land a job with his poli sci degree, tried stand up again.

He earned a reputation as a solid joke writer. A top national headliner took him on the road as an opening act and writing buddy. He bugged the hell out of him and every other comic for jokewriting secrets, and started assembling a system that worked for him

That led to multiple apperances on The Tonight Show, and a 20+ year career as a TV writer.

MIKE LARSEN is a nationally-touring comedian and Emmy-nominated television writer for shows like The Drew Carey Show, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Ellen, and HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher. He’s made dozens of television appearances, including multiplel bookings on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. This summer, he’s been invited to six comedy festivals, including the Columbus Comedy Festival, the North Carolina Comedy Festival, and the Crosstown Comedy Festival, where he was chosen to perform in the Best of the Fest closing night show.
